Piume is a journey through the struggles and resources of loneliness. The emotional roller-coaster of a woman who is waiting. But for what? For herself? For all the things she has lost? For a new beginning? Piume is a loop and all the the possible ways to get out of it, a concert of gestures that creates powerful images. Piume explores the language of clown and overcomes it, playing upon the poetic and grotesque, the comical and subliminal, between rhythms and the flight of birds. Elena Burani investigates the condition of waiting, an emotional seesaw between the freedom to ‘be’ and the fear of not being enough for oneself, of not being able ‘to be without’. Does the gaze of those we love draw the boundaries of our being? Piume plays upon the margins of what we mean by circus, dance, theatre, music. And celebrates the human fragility is all its strength.

Elena Burani graduated from Flic Circus School (Turin) in 2005 in aerial rope. She took part in the Closing Ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin curated by Daniele Finzi Pasca. She was chosen for the show Littra, directed by Roberto Magro, with whom she toured Italy and Europe. She founded Collettivo 320chili, whose poetics moves on the borders between dance, theater, gesture and circus disciplines. With the show Ai Migranti, they won the 2010 Equilibrium Award directed by the choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
In 2008 she created, for the pop singer Luciano Ligabue, an aerial choreography on the piece Piccola Stella senza cielo, interpreting it in three national tours.
She has worked for various companies including NoFit State Circus, Sosta Palmizi, Tino Sehgal. In 2011 she founded Dinamico Festival (Reggio Emilia), which gathers every year important companies from all over Europe.
