The term exquisite corpse refers to a form of group "automatic" creation associated with the Surrealist movement. The result is a collective work theoretically freed from the limitations individuals face. The Surrealists played this game to develop creativity through collaboration, as a tactic of resistance and deviation from ego manipulation.
We are marking two decades of open Exquisite Corpse workshops & exhibitions. The method itself, and the Surrealist movement in which it originated, celebrate 100 years internationally. The exhibition presents a selection of 20 works created during about 20 workshops over the past two decades. Each piece was drawn by 3 authors. They are digitally processed and printed in XXL waterproof format at ars copia, Zagreb.
The workshops are free and open to the public and usually take place during Komikaze’s guest appearances as part of a package: exhibition, booth, and workshop. The program has toured about 20 times, both locally (Zagreb, Hvar, Lastovo, Dubrovnik, Pula, Imotski, Vrbovec, Virovitica, Makarska, Opatija) and internationally (Bosnia/Sarajevo; Slovenia/Soča; Serbia/Belgrade; France/Grenoble; Italy/Rome; Austria/Graz).
Info – exquisite corpse method – the basis is simple:
One sheet of folded paper + strict instructions – fill in your third of the paper without peeking!
This is a Dadaist drawing method in which a group of people (3–4) create a drawing gradually, part by part, without seeing the previous sections. The previous artist leaves only the continuation of lines (smudges, shapes, colors, verses, slogans, etc.) reaching into the next section. In this way, multiple people contribute to the creation of a unique whole, which is revealed only at the end – with results that are fascinating and exceed all expectations.
