THE CIRCUS-PICNIC OF THE 1ST OF MAY

THE CIRCUS-PICNIC OF THE 1ST OF MAY May 1st/From 11:00 h This year’s International Workers’ Day is being celebrated actively! Considering we’re in a city with an already-built house of circus, why shouldn’t we express our solidarity towards workers together, hoping we’ll at least achieve the three 8s: 8 hours of work, 8 hours of restand 8 hours of culture! In these times, underpaid work has become standard, resting is a distant dream of many, and culture is something the worker has no time or opportunity to deal with, sowe…

The Other Side of the Circus

Yoann Bourgeois, Sanja Kosonen, Alexandre Fray, Chloe Moglia, Jorg Muller, Camille Boitel, Tatiana-Mosio Bongonga and Johann Le Guillerm–are eight contemporary circus artists who, through the documentary  “The Other Side of the Circus”, invite us to explore the workings of their everyday life and themselves. These circus artists defy laws of physics and reexplore their own circus skills on a daily basis, creating some of the best contemporary circus shows of today. The film was made through Program 33 and the cooperation of the director Netty Radvany and the Artcene. Netty…

PUSHING BO(UN)D(AR)IES

This moniker encapsulates Lea Ovčarić and Petra Kožljan, two aerial acrobats who have (relatively) recently broadened the spectrum of their artistic expression to include stilts. After many years of participating in various circus projects, performances and shows, they have decided to join forces and together explore the new prop, repurposing it to their liking. Once the performers mastered stilt-walking, they were intrigued by the idea of other possibilities and movements, not just plain walking. Their first efforts were immediately fruitful as they realized the shapes and wondrous images produced by…

(UN)CONNECTED

The Malinada Collective is made up of Hristina Šormaz from Belgrade and Morana Radočaj from Zagreb. While they’ve been performing and practicing the circus arts for many years, both primarily as aerial acrobats, the two have now decided to embark on a collaborative artistic project which unites the interests which they both find most important: aerial acrobatics, textile design, scenography and their friendship. Through their show “(UN)CONNECTED”, they set out to explore the relationship of two people under the influence of physical separation. How does their relationship change in regards…

Noise Circus

NOise Cirkus Talks about the relationship between humans and human-made objects in a post-modern consumer-orientated society. It is a circus and musical semi-improvised performance which is using attributes of noise music and importing them into circus language through exploration of discarded objects a.k.a trash. In a sense how noise music emancipates the sound from having to correspond to established  melodical schemes and ways of sound-producing, we want to diversify the formal propositions of contemporary circus practices and tear up some of its constraints. The project is affirmative towards the mentality…

BODY, SOUND AND LIGHT

The idea is to take basice lements of a performance – body, sound and light and treat them as equal elements on stage. It is a research about a way different techniques of producing sound and light can affect and interact with the body of a performer and with each other. The goal is to combine circus techniques along with cinematographic and soundmaking techniques to create a unique audio-visual identity of the performance. Movement of the circus bodies, soundscaping and visual equivalent of music improvisations will all correspond with each…

Nebulajzer fest

Monday 30.4. from 16:00 NEBULAJZER-the festival of hellishly strange bands and individuals who express themselves through music in such a way that no one’s left unaffected This year, we’ve decided to use the festival to delve somewhat deeper into the musical matter of everyday life, giving those interested a better view of the trends of contemporary underground sound. We free-dove deeply, dug deeper than 10 feet, and at last we found a number of brilliant minds- right in front of us! They are musicians who often flirt with the circus…

After 5 years of programs in lounges and rented spaces, the 6thedition of the Circkoobalkan Festival opens the door of its own space – Cirkobalkanin circus tent. This resulted in the idea of leading this project and we have got room for an independent nomadic creative, creative and educational circus center that will provide basic conditions for the development of a modern circus in the region. With a lot of enthusiasm, self-organization and the help of friends and lovers of the circus tent we finally place on its pillars, for…
